I work.... I dont play golf ....I dont hang out at bars with my friends after work.... I dont go off with the boys to go hunting. I work and stay home.

I also have let 15 years go by ....without exposing my kid to "other things in life"

I bought a nice Mossberg 12 ga. pump. for going to clay shoots with the charity clay shoots we have. SO ...I decided to take the wife and 15 yr old daughter to the local popular shooting range gun store. She was a bit defiant at first (the 15yr old)... or it came across that way. We walk out to the line and the tears started rolling....the bad news is one of the shooters was firing a fringg'n CANNON that shook you to the bone when it went off. She was TERRIFIED. I let her sit on the bench. Not a good experience for her. I just wish I had a need to buy lower caliber guns for her to start out with and had introduced her to guns earlier in life.

Dana, you might look at the smith & wesson model 22A

I got one for the boys to play with and it is great

Never jams, runs cheap ammo

15.00 for 500 rounds

Not a lot of kick but some, very accurate

I have a really old Sears Roebuck .22lr rifle that I'm going to start my daughter out with next spring. She'll be 9, so I think it's the right time. I hope to take her bird hunting sometime but I don't know, she's kind of a girly-girl.

yeah... mine is definitely girly girl.. prim and proper girly living the good life in the double wides. she's never been exposed to house work much less learning things like guns and out doors.

She was shocked with the noise of the gun range. We walk out the door and some dude is firing a cannon and it sounded like world war III. I'll start her out with a 22 and we'll try to work our way up from there. She did like the hand guns but didnt shoot any today..... we'll work on that.

Sometimes thats a good thing for kids...I will never forget the time i pulled the trigger at 12 years old "thinking im a man!!" On a 30.06 lightweight...It let me have it good..."rubs his shoulder"..And put a little fear of high caliber guns in me at the time...22's are great for learning..specialy with the kids.....but sometimes its good for them to hear and feel the kick of a bigger gun...So they wont take them so lightly ;)

I don't think you are a bad dad, mine didn't teach me that much about real guns but always told me to not to point my bb gun or heck even airsoft guns at anything you don't intend to destroy. I have a marlin 795 .22 and it's fun for target shooting and learning on. If you really want to start her off slow get her a pellet or BB gun and work your way up. Then just teach her the basics of guns and the responsibility they carry. Just my thoughts.

I know I always liked shooting with my dad, but he started me out small too, when I was 8. I worked up from a .22 to a 24 ga. to a 12 ga. Then there was a pause while I recovered from the emotional damage of being blown onto my butt. I just barely shot my first machine gun. AK-47. Good stuff. My friend's gonna build me a semi-auto now, cuz I'm addicted, lol.

Time to teach the grandchildren how to shoot.

Ages 6 and 9. Have a nice .22 LR bolt action

Anschutz with simple iron sites. Very small

and light plus a great confidence builder.

Easy to load and shoot and hyper-accurate.

Dana, get her a .410 or 20 gauge for clays. And get her a pink .22 pistol to plink with. My kids all love to shoot. My then 6year old last year was hitting the target with my 1911. It's a bit much for him but he likes it. And you know the older kids can't be shown up by a scrawny little 6 year old.

I highly recommend you do something now though with a big hook for her...maybe even an activity that she wants to pursue and then work into your shooting. I use cars (their cars) as the hook for the boys and I was kinda surprised that that hook also worked for my 9 year old daughter.

Good luck with it. Maybe she'd like a diamond blue vert with pink pin stripes. Of course you'd have to show her how to do body work and paint. ;)

Dad and I didn't do a lot of 'father and son' activities together but one that we did do was go to the shooting range. Good times.

I hear ya on the cannon thing. Some folks think loud/powerful is better. I visit an indoor range and there are all kinds there. I always start off with the .22 Ruger Mark Target Pistol. Not much noise but a lot more accurate. It's kind of fun to have a small spread near the center when (some of) the guys with their 'big guns' are spraying all over the place.

Not that big can't be accurate. The 6" .357 S&W six shooter is pretty darn accurate too. (Just a lot more expensive to shoot)

Hey...now that is an idea... a PINK .22!!! she will love that! yeah on the car thing, I told her she would have to start changing the oil and washing the honda if she was going to drive it...."but DAD... we can just take it to the oil change place".....:cool: "but Maggie.... I own good cars and I want to believe in raising you to understand cars...not STUPID KIDS... so you WILL learn just like I did"
