My Car
351c bored .40, FMX Transmission, Fitech, TrueTrac, 3.5 gears. Ordered from Sanderson Ford in Phoenix, 99k original miles.
While I am waiting for the motor and tranny to get back from the machine shop, I figured I would knock out something that has been on the to do list for a while. My hood (not the original one to the car), was covered in surface rust. Saw a YT video of a guy with a nova that had the same problem so I tried his solution. A roll of shop towels, 5% white vinegar, and some plastic wrap. Covered the entire hood in the shop towels and let it sit wrapped overnight. Next morning, uncovered it and with a little pressure about 95% of it wiped right off. There were a couple scaly spots that I was able to knock down with a wire wheel. Once I got it all wiped off and "clean", I did neutralize the vinegar with a good baking soda/water soaking. Threw on a couple coats of primer filler, and finished with flat enamel. By no means is it a professional job, looks good from 10ish feet, but ultimately wanted to get rid of the rust and protect the hood. I figured for a patio job this turned out alright! There's still a couple rough spots but when its painted down the road, the pros can get those. I have to sand some imperfections out of my passenger side hood insert, thats why its not on there.

Looks GREAT! Sometimes low-tech and elbow grease pays off pretty well.
The good thing is that it couldn't look worse than it did before I attempted it! Still planning on getting out to that car show in FH this fall.
