The pics are kind of small, but to me this does not look like a sportsroof.

Is this a customized Grande or do I need new glasses.

Craigslist 73 Mach 1
Mike,

I have seen pics of 2 other cars like this with the vinyl and wierd little portholes on the side. Some sort of special edition? It would make an interesting Marti report! Yes,it looks to me a sportsroof,I think the vinyl is an optical illusion. ::huh:::

Those ltitle windows and vinyl tops like that are dealers installed...Ford only did a half top that covered from back of the rear window up too the front window...but they are interesting...and i wonder what place did it for the dealers.

I have seen dealer "Special Edition" or Dealer " Custom"

Tasca Ford here in Rhode Island always has Tasca Special Packages, where they will customize the car, add or remove things.

This car has been on Craigs List off and on for months. Personally, I don't care for vinyl tops on a sports roof, and I like the porthole even less. But that's just me.

It kind of reminds me of a old 78 Lincoln Town car I owned, it had a vinyl top and port hole windows too, lol.

Having worked at dealerships through the '70's, I remember a lot of vendors would drop by and try to sell different modification packages. The custom van companies were the worst and would try and do different modifications to help the dealer make more 'profit'.

The vinyl roof trim, bodyside mouldings and door edge guards were examples of this. Portholes really became popular in the 70's into the 80's. And later on they were usually accompanied with the padded vinyl roofs. Add-on air, radio/stereo packages, cb- radios and car alarms were added too. Of course there were aftermarket bumpers and tire/wheel combinations that were done as well.

And I almost forgot about undercoating!

The idea that the add-ons were actually installed by the dealer is very incorrect. Usually the work was completed at a local bodyshop, upholstery shop or electronics vendor.

Anyone remember the 'protectant sealer packages' the dealers would have applied to the paint and upholstery? Some dealers added $1000. or more to the sticker just for this junk!

Man, I dont' know if it is or is not a Mach 1 but I can tell you that it is ugly with a capital U. That's just my opinion. If I had it I would grind off the top and make it a convertible. ::shrug::::shrug::::shrug::

When most say dealer installed...We are talking about a dealer paid some one to have it done for them....instead of ford doing it. ;)

looks ike they took a "Plane Jane" Sport roof Mustang and did there magic on it. its deffinatly not a Mach 1

I have seen Sport Roof Mustangs (non Mach 1) with the Vinyl tops on them before, but the Port holes are added.

To each their own, but there are some things that are so ugly only a mother could love it.

True, I guess I should not be so critical. Case in point, I used to only like the convertible in 71-73 but now the fastback is really appealing to me and I want one bad. The wife says no, we have too many toys now.
