I built my own as well using the plastic cover plate and a piece of white plastic lampshade that I had kicking around. I located the switch in an old parts bin at a store that repairs old electronics. Guy gave it to me, then I hooked up a battery operated light.
The light can easily be removed with the 2 screws holding it in place to change the battery when necessary.

eBay has them from time to time. I bought mine there and replaced the not working slide switch with a micro toggle switch I picked up on Amazon. Installed a new LED lamp and a new cover/diffuser. Works great!
