1971 mustang convertible. Numbers matching, M-code 351, 4-speed transmission, 9inch 3:55 traction lock differential. In the process of restoration.

Hello hello!!
Question for the brainiacs. Are the individual letters that spell out MUSTANG on the trunk above or below the trunk key latch? I’ve seen it both ways. Also, is there a template available for proper spacing of said letters? Thank you in advance for your help.

Definitely installed below the trunk key lock by the Factory. I'm not aware of a readily available template for installation although there may be something in the factory manuals but I don't recall ever seeing one. When i restored my vert, I researched the internet and went through countless published articles for pictures of original car's similar to some shown here in this response by Hemikiller. The one thing I noted was that the "T" was not quite centered below the trunk key lock, ever so slightly off center....

I know it was a 71 only feature. Was it only below the key cylinder for vert's and coupes?
