I'd buy it ASAP if that was my car...Thats the part you need & 500.00 is a steal..
Q - 500.00 is a great deal BUT read his fine print - in large letters

Mike get a shipping quote and " crating " cost from him -

IF it is reasonalbe - that is a good price on the 1/4

SHIPPING WILL BE MARKED ''FREE SHIP''ON THE LISTING BUT WILL NOT BE,SO IT WILL BE FAIR TO BOTH SIDES.IT CAN BE PICKED UP OR SHIPPED BY THE TRUCKING CO OF YOUR CHOICE AND PRICE FIGURED OUT THEN.IT WOULD BE BEST TO HAVE IT CRATED AS
I hear you, that $500 could double pretty quickly.

Mike,

Go to u-ship & put the qtr out for bid..I bet someone doing a back trip etc would load on their trailer for a quick 2-300.00 Those panels don't come up often..I'd say you lucky ones even on evil bay..you could look a for year before you find another ford panel.

If you read the verbiage on the listing it says they have been on EBAY for xxx period of time yada yada......however, it also says Ponderosa Mustang Co. Is that the same Ponderosa Mustang that advertises here???

This is the same guy. This is still part of his NOS parts group he had when he introduced himself here. Betcha if you go looking you can find what he had originally.

If you have any junk yards close by,check there first.I live in N.C. and have been able to locate a few 7173.It saved me a ton of money. These were pull it yourself yards,it'll be well worth your time.
The reason I am looking at this piece is NOS. No prep work, already

primed and ready to install. The driver's door and trunk lid work fine

and the car tracks fine. The only other parts I need are valance,

bumper and extension.

goodnigh,

Long ago I worked for a dodge dealer and we would ship panel new with just a label on them and send them via bus freight. The fewer times it has to be loaded and unloaded the better. That said if there is a bus that goes from florida to even salt lak it could make picking the panel up there. Just an idea

The quarter panel is on the way.

How much would an NOS '71 Mustang

Grande left rear quarter panel weigh?

The party I bought it from said it weighed

10-15 pounds. When I checked the bill of

lading from the shipper it read 115 lbs.

So I figure they built a crate for it. Now the

bill says 210 lbs.?? Beginning to wonder

what I bought.

mike

Wow - Mike I missed this thread.

Sorry to hear of the smash. Glad to hear it wasn't any worse and hasn't dampened your M-code, 4 speed spirit in any way.

My Grande quarter is not good enough to offer or it would have been yours. There is a coupe in the junk yard next to where mine is stored but I haven't specifically paid attention to the quarter. If you need anything else please let me know.

Mike it is going to be due to the size

UPS, Fed ex, all trucking companies use

weight and factor in the size

The space that 15 pound quarter panel takes up is about

70 X 40 X 12 which is about 20 cu. ft.

They could fit a lot of weight in 20 cu ft.

So you will get charged for that = billable weight

In the long run the Mustang wins :p

Just one step closer to full restoration.

All we need now is a full length trunk floor.

Mike I wish I knew that sooner - I would have recommended you to ask him [ ponderosa guy ] if he could have gotten you one.

That could have shipped with the quarter for very little extra cost

I have them but as you know the freight is bad

Is NPD in CA anywhere in driving distance to you?

About 900 mile round trip.

It would be a good drive though.

If you take your time it is a nice drive

down the coast on route 1, otherwise

route 5 through the central valley is faster.

NPD has the trunk floor at about $140 shipping.

The shipping company is Saia. Never heard of them.

They were established in 1924 and had 1.1 billion in

revenue last year.

Saia been around a long time. don't know a lot about their reputation but they are a decent sized LTL (less than truck load) company. I thought they were a west coast based company.

It cost me $565 to have a 15 lb quarter panel shipped, albeit some

of that cost was packaging. When Don shipped my 625 lb long block

it cost $310 and Don packed it himself, same distance and same

delivery conditions. Saia started in Houma, LA. Their first delivery

truck was the family car with the rear seat removed. I love an

American success story :D

mike

The package arrived yesterday, one day ahead of schedule.

Only problem was my mechanic had to drive down to the

warehouse to pick it up, all 150 lbs of it. The left rear

quarter panel weighed 150 lbs? It was packed like fine

china in a 7x4x2 foot wooden crate using 3/4 inch plywood.

Kudos to the packaging company, Eagle Packaging of Pensacola

Florida and Ponderosa Mustang for arranging the shipment.

My only issue is with Saia, the trucking company, as I paid for

door to door service and did not get that. They did not have a

truck that could navigate the narrow mountain roads; not my

problem!

Mike;

Contact them and complain, if they did not completely do what they agreed to you should at least get some money back for the time and energy taken to pick it up yourself..
