WOW! Thank you for all of the responses! What a forum, I am over whelmed! I ran down to the garage and got some pics. The vin is: 1F03M...San Jose is where it was sold. 9 inch rear. Offset shocks, front disk brakes. Front and rear anti roll bars. GT guages, 8 track needed a new belt, but plays as good as they ever did. Ha! I found a build sheet tucked in the passenger side carpet under the dash, and it says Magnums are factory. They have a white paint mark on the inside of the rim. It has a factory aluminum intake and dual point distributor, with solid lifters.
Really interesting combo there, right down to the Shelby taillamp panel welded in.. Sounds as if a dealer might have done a big custom job on a factory M-code back in the day.

That said, please post up that build sheet - that's just as good as any Marti report; just takes a bit longer to decode.

FYI, if the Bright Lime Green exterior color is original (check for code "I" on the door tag) and the interior is as well (code CW), you have one of 48 convertibles produced in that combo in '71.

Shelby tail lamps make me doubt the original/unmolested story, but.. You never know. Sounds like it could have a legit boss engine, or at least, a good replica.
The decals on the air cleaner suggest replica, though the conversion appears to date back quite a bit - enough that someone knew how to put one together quite accurately without the internet.

Ok I have my doubts; as usual. Definitley a neat convertible as on 414 built in 71 with the M-code C-6 auto.

My two main concerns are

1. From my understanding the "Boss 351" sticker on the side of the valve cover was never offered by Ford. It is an aftermarket sticker that showed up with vendors as they had the Boss 302 stickers reproduced in the late 70's early 80's they decided why not make one similar for the Boss 351 - yes I am old and I was there! :) This mod alone makes me extremely suspect as to the unmodified claims. Sorry I am just have to remain realistic. But I am hoping to hear great info about this interesting car!

2. From my understanding Boss 351 did not come with a "Caution Fan" sticker on the radiator shroud. Whoever did the modifications (dealer???) to Boss it up could have just used the shroud form the M code setup and the "Caution Fan" sticker would be correct for that configuration.

I really like that Ford Marketing sticker. Never have seen one! And again I can't wait to get more info on this sticker and the other history concerning this car.

Hello,

Welcome to the site with a great car...

I am one of the guys that Ray referred to that have a car built for Ford Marketing. Information is difficult to come by but I may be able to get you started. When you receive your Marti report, the first thing you will want to look for is the ORDER TYPE. You can see from my report below where this is. This will get you started as to what the car was specially built for. The next thing you will look to find is the DEALER number/name and confirm that it was Ford Marketing. Relative to your National Resale sticker, my understanding is that cars built by Ford for special uses were kept less than one year and under 12k miles (may have been a law relative to tax reasons etc.) and then reconditioned by Ford to be sold at various Dealerships.

My car is like Jeffs. It was ordered from Ford to be used as a company car. These cars are nice to find because there usally loaded because no one had to pay for the upgrades.

Welcome to the site from Washington State.

You have us all curious, no matter how your research turns out you have a very nice car, the Marti report will tell you how it came off the line but it's apparent some nice modifications were made, could have been done by the dealership who took delivery of it as a project for the dealer's owner, who knows we're all speculating. That would be sweet if the dealership pulled the engine and dropped a Boss 351 in it. No matter what you have a keeper.

Welcome from Rhode Island. I would get a Marti report on your car as everyone suggests. There may be a neat history behind your Mustang.

Killer car! Welcome from West Virginia!

Hello everyone!

I have a 1971 Mustang Convertible, one owner, 60 k miles. It is a rare 'Executive Demo' made for Regional Ford Sales Managers. I have a book that shows the options available, and it does not have the Boss 429 option. But it does have everything else. Power windows, tilt wheel, rim blow, 351 Boss motor, power everything. Magnum 500 wheels, etc. etc. I have some questions, in the drivers window is a sticker, decal, from 'FORD Marketing Corporation' and it says...'Reconditioned to FORD Marketing Corporation Standards'. Ok, I bought this car on a lien sale out of a barn in California, and the story I got was the car was ordered by a Regional Sales Manager, in the Bay Area. He sold it to his niece, who was the person who stored it for about 35 years. Could it have been sent to the recondition service before the relative took the car? Is the Boss motor a Ford recondition service? My understanding is there are no Boss motors with C6 automatics. The car is original paint and interior and almost everything else. The tires and oil filter have been changed. I did make two changes.... the exhaust was rusted, so I installed 2 1/2 inch 316 stainless steel pipes and mufflers. I replaced the plastic convertible top with the most expensive canvas top I could find, so it matches my Z4 M BMW top. What can you tell me? Thanks! Mark
::welcome::so its a Cleveland? Or 429 w/solid lifters-compression? Can not answer your question but think you ought to be entered in the COTM. Of what i know @ your original set up-should read w/an R code on the VIN if it was a Boss 351 and would have been 2.5 inches dual pipe set up. You're probably right to question the @ the C6. Thought it would be least an FMX w/a top loader tranny and a 4.11:1 rear axle ratio Detroit Locker.

Mustang One out of Georgia has a parts catalog which in the back has pages of what option goes w/what codes to your VIN#.
