"Original Miles"....

So with ours and most other odometers from the 90's and before only reading as high as 99,999 I disbelieve almost every one that says their car/ truck has less then 100k on them. Anyone else feel the same?

My 71 has 60 odd thousand on the clock and my 72 has 50 odd thousand on the clock, I don't think I could be so lucky to have two cars 40 years old that have only travelled less than 1500 miles a year,

Mine had zero "original" miles, when it was new it hadn't been driven. Since then who knows how many...but the miles it has are all aftermarket. ;-)

My 72 Mustang has 468k miles on it give or take0 there were a few points in its life where the odometer was not registering correctly.My 1975 Bricklin has 19k miles on it. A large % of Bricklins have low mileage.

When I bought my car from the bone yard it had a 1979 inspection sticker on the windsheild. Figured they couldn't have racked up too many miles in 6 years.

I can't recall how many were on mine when they parked it sometime in 1980 or 1981 (last inspection and registration stickers say 1980). Based on how badly mine was abused during that short time, I know whatever is showing were some pretty hard miles and most likely less than 100K.

Mine has a 2004 inspection but its registering 79,798 on it. Every time I get in there I look and think to myself. I wonder if that's correct. The engine is most certainly not a 73 302. Figured that out when I ordered spark plugs for it and my engine has the smaller threaded plugs instead of the larger size plugs. Still haven't determined what year my engine is, but the block is clean like someone refreshed it and put in the car then never drove it. I have some rumors from previous owners that it was rebuilt 302 from a early 80's pickup. Who knows.

I'm mostly sure my 77,000 are accurate most of the damage to my car is heat rot and not car bashing. My engine has been rebuild once in 1990 and is original to car, but even knowing that is is likely to be true I'm still a skeptic.

well I'm not just talking about our cars. Surfing craigslist I see alot of 80's pickups with statements like "56k miles" and my pickup is a 96 and has 235k... 31 k of that is from me in only about 17 months of having it (keeping in mind I had been deployed 4 of those months)

Mine shows 69+ on the odometer most likely 169k but I'm working on adding MANY more to the total.

I would said it depends, a car with lower mileage would have signs of such. Like original ball joints, tie rod ends, motor and trans. mounts and perhaps hoses or cables. If all of the suspension has been changed, it probably to good to be true.

Just filed a form with my insurance company regarding how many miles I drive a year.

I was asked to enter the odometer reading even though I told them the odometer is not

currently working. They said it does not matter whether or not the odometer works, just

send us the reading. Hilarious
