Out for a drive

I was out for a drive yesterday with my wife, when I happened to see a 73 convertible sitting in a parking lot of a roadhouse.

Since I hadn't seen this car around my city before I had to check it out. I pulled up and as I was getting out of my car I saw a woman at the door and I asked her if she knew who owned the 73....she said "my sister" I asked to talk to her.....and when I did I found out she bought the car in 1975, she's had it painted....and done the interior. The car used to be the same colour as mine, but is now a beige colour. I told her about our forum and hopefully she'll take a look.

It's funny, whenever I'm out on a road trip I keep watching the road sides hoping to catch a glimpse of a 71/73.

Thats getting harder and harder to see.....I only see one runing around here anymore once every 6 months or a year just driving down the road...hehe...Im not even seeing the beat up ones i use to see runing around anymore.

Very cool story..Im the same way thou...if i see a 71-73 rolling around town...or parked...Ill usualy chased it down and check it out..lol

I'm the only 71-73 in our town of 10,000 that I know of. Gotta check out Reno during Hot Summer Nights to see how many are there, if any.

Ran into a 73 Vert on a trailer out on a trip to a family BBQ. I spotted it the minute i turned the corner on a street i had never been on before. it was blue, white top, slowly rotting away, i slowed down, and i noticed a guy next to the 73 working on another car, he spotted me i spotted him we made eye contact and i go, hey look at that and he smiled and went look at you, i waved and drove off. it was amusing. So i get to the BBQ and i'm there about 40 minutes and my uncle shows up and Bee lines for me and goes "DID YOU SEE YOUR CAR IN BLUE AROUND THE CORNER" i told him i did, next thing i know i'm in my car, packed with 5 people driving back around the corner to see the 73 on the trailer. we pull up and i started to do a roll by and the same guy popped out from the house still working on the other car. He saw me and laughed and i go " now i got the whole entourage with me" so i stopped to talk, he was storing it for a friend its been on the trailer for over 6 years, off the road for who knows how long, he thought it was a 71, i explained about the grill and the "fat lip" and it was a 73. He said it was pretty solid underneath, and his buddy had motor work and a put a new trans in it before it ended up on the trailer. the top was falling apart and the windows were open on it and interior was ruined.

from 30 feet it looked ok, from 10 oh boy. so we drove back to the BBQ all smiles, and my uncle talking about wanting another project car.

He has a 67 camaro RS since 1980, just had a lot of work done to it. he restored it in 1980 but he didn't really do the work himself. I actaully replaced the rag joint on it for him and he said it was running really bad. I didn't have a chance to look it over. He told me at the BBQ his master cylinder went out, and the garage that replaced it found major issues with his engine harness, frayed badly and missing the wire covering. He claims now the miss he's had for years is gone now, he kept telling me something was off with his motors bottom end, but he never drives it and i've never driving inside it. he did drive it to a mustang club meeting i was at 2 times. so it does drive. i never really had a chance to look it over when it was running.

So it was funny since he has driven in my mustang 2 times and both times it wasn't even the same car.

I'll explain: when he first drove in it with me, it was before i gutted it and rebuilt the entire car mechanically.

at that time the entire car was in extremely poor shape. a few years went by, and i had the motor rebuilt, I rebuilt the trans and rear end. replaced the entire: Fuel system, brake system, Electrical system, suspension, Tires, rims, you name it EVERYTHING. but the exterior looks about the same as before. The interior was replaced completely but he was in it with the new interior. New radio and speaker Too , HECK the rear windshield was replaced also.

So all 5 of us are crammed in the car driving around going back to the BBQ and hes like Man this drives nice i don't remember it like this before, and i explained the above and his son was cracking up in the back seat.

he still remembered when he helped me remove the Thermostat Bolt that snapped off in my block and both of us sat on top of the motor for 6 hours with a dremel Cutting out the bolt without wrecking the motor threads,,, that was 10 years ago.

Stories like that are cool. Old cars are great subjects and are good for making new friends and bonding together old friends and families. I bet his son will remember that ride for a long time.
