Hi guys, just found this :

http://www.leboncoin.fr/equipement_auto/273861584.htm?ca=22_s

It's an used PERTRONIX Ignitor kit with the Flame Thrower coil. It's cheap so I'm really interested. The seller says it only been used a few months and that it will work with any american V8 engine between 1957 and 1974. Does the kit look complete ?

Thanks for helping me out.

I've got the same Pertronix on my car and the kit looks complete to me.

It's a 1281 kit so is correct for standard single point Ford V8 Motorcraft distributor. It's got the ignitor and the screw to hold it down, the black magnet ring that drops down over the points cam, and that clear piece of plastic sitting on top of the magnet ring is what is used to set the gap between the ignitor and the ring.

It's a very easy setup, but it would be helpful if it was supplied with instructions.

That appears to be a first generation system, personally I would buy new, both for under $200. The new flame thrower coil ($42.00) is .32 Ohms, I noticed that one you

re looking at 1.5 Ohms.

Warning - I put the ignitor lll and flame thrower lll on and it runs much better than the points...but after installing, my stock tach isn't working, called Petronix and they explained the ignitor lll won't work with the old analog tach on my 71 Mach1 but a ignitor ll to will. I'm working on a solution with the great input from many members from this site.

make sure you get a full 12 volts to the pertronix. You need to bypass the resistance wire. If not you might get erratic firing. And go through spark plugs in a minute. Believe me I know. When I first installed it on my freshly rebuilt engine It was fine at first then I started getting misfires in one cylinder what happened was the pertronix fried because I was not getting a full 12 volts.and if you want the second strike ignitor box you need to buy the ignitor II and not ignitorIII. the ignitor III is not compatible with the second strike.

Not to hijack the thread, but since it's fairly on topic with Eric's post I thought I'd check. I'm about to put an Ignitor II on this weekend, I just want to clarify with the 12v bypass that it's just running a 12v wire from the key to the positive coil lead instead of the original resistance wire right? I figure better safe than sorry.

I've had the original Ignitor on my Mach 1 for 16 years with no issues, but the flame thrower coil burned out just outside of warranty. Put the original yellow top back on and it's been going strong for the past 15 years.
