72 mustang mach 1
I was doing an oil change on my 72 mach 1 yesterday and a 3/16" piece of broken off roll pin was stuck to the magnetic oil pan plug. Any ideas which part of the 351C this might have come from and what the implications are? I am not feeling too good about this!

Thanks

Scott

You wouldn't by chance happen to running a high volume oil pump?

for a 351C its very common to shear roll pin in distributor gear, what Ive heard is the valve stem seals get hard and brittle and pieces break off and get stuck in oil pump gears, It is very wise for all 351C owners to replace the black rubber valve seals with the Teflon version.

Ok guys, just pulled the distributor and checked the gear. Both pins are intact. I also checked the distributor I removed a few months back. Both intact on that distributor as well.

The oil pump is a stock oil pump as far as I know.

Where to next?

Thanks

Scott

I got the new carb on the mustang today and drive the car around a bit. After a while I thought I was seeing an oil pressure drop on the gauge. I am going to put a mechanical gauge on there to see what the actual pressure is. I know that at operating temperature the pressure was usually around 28PSI. What I saw on the gauge today was well below that. There might be an oil pump issue here.
