1973 Mustang 351C 2V  Code H

Hi All;

This thing is called by several names.  Pre-Heat Shroud, Exhaust shield.......

It pre-heats inlet air before it goes into the Air Filter.

Does anybody know the part # or even the orthodox name ?

Also, where can I find one that doesn't cost like the price of a component on the Saturn V Moon Rocket?

There are both parts, the inner and outer 72-73 Mustang 351C Heat Shield on eBay. Listed separately but from the same seller. Get them to combine shipping.

Excellent !!!

Thanks a bunch !!!

If I had the press molds to make these things I could make a fortune.

There is a far-flung possibility that I can repair this shroud by cutting-out the bad area and making a flush patch. That is called a "long shot" but worth a try.

Can anybody tell me how it is mounted to the manifold? Maybe even a picture?

Surely it is not secured with the manifold bolts.

Tnx

Roy

Surely/Shirley it is. Bolt/stud combo with an extra nuts. Not a "better idea".  If you try to weld it, use small wire and low current, slow feed. Chuck

I have a spare inner one, that I've bead blasted and repainted with high heat engine paint. It has some texturing along the upper portions, but no rust through. If you're interested, make me a reasonable offer and I'm sure we can come to an agreement.

The 71 351C (2 & 4bl) ran a different style from what you see on the 72/ models. The 71 used D1AZ-9A603-A which was sourced from the 71 full size Ford with a 400 engine. Just as David posted, many of these and the engine lift brackets were tossed during header installations.

Really tough to see some of the prices on the shroud and tubes on E-Bay and think back to all the ones I tossed during my "Lets put headers on everything" stage I went through. I hear another verse of "If I Only Knew Then What I Know Now"!   :D

Ryunker, hopefully one of our Forum members may have one looking for a new home. The prices on this part are now at the level where you need to make sure your setting down when pricing them. A couple of them are on E-Bay  https://www.ebay.com/itm/ORIGINAL-1971-FORD-MUSTANG-TORINO-COUGAR-351C-EXHAUST-MANIFOLD-HEAT-SHIELD/391692847080?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160323102634%26meid%3D70613b96b58b4d2e88d6d226fcaf6c29%26pid%3D100623%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D162379862031%26itm%3D391692847080&_trksid=p2047675.c100623.m-1

West Coast Classic Cougars also shows one    https://secure.cougarpartscatalog.com/d1az-9a603-a.html    Didn't look much further, but sounds strange to say at $85.37 that is one of the cheapest I seen when the  D1AZ-9A603-C sold new from Ford for $15.40!

Just be glad you don't need one for a 429, I've seen most of those start at $500.00!

Also might be a good ideal to check with Don @ Ohio Mustang Supply or Mike @ Motor City Mustang. They have parts cars and also might be able to help you!   :)
