Putting the Motor and trans back in

Title explains most of the question here. Will be stabbing the motor and trans back in the car this weekend as I will have some good help. Was wondering if I can mount the headers on before putting it back in the car? 351C with Headman Long Tube Headers and T-5 trans.

I have done it with drivers side header on. But I believe it will fit with both. Only reason I had the passenger side off is because I have my transmission lines coupled on that side right in front of the starter. Headers are Hedman long tube. They block my tranny line splices on passenger side. But since you have the t5, no tranny lines. You should be ok.

Cool. Thanks for the info. I most concerned about the drivers side anyhow because that was the side that was a PITA when I put them in to begin with.

I think it is easier to leave the driver side header off because of the steering box. Passenger side wasn't a problem for me. Best advice is to have someone around who can hold the driver side header in place, or hang it with string or straps in the right position while the engine is lowered down to the mounts and then bolt it up before you lower the engine the last inch or so.

Could you just leave the header loosely attached to the exhaust pipe?

I don't see why not. I've usually had the exhaust out when I've installed engines, but for unrelated reasons such as upgrade of exhaust etc.

I guess if you install the engine with transmission you cant have the exahust on.
