Has anyone ever used one of these? I need to install these on my Idler Arm to frame connection on the 67. Headers are right up against the Idler arm bracket mount to the frame with no room for an external not for attaching. I am thinking about installing these in the iddler arm mount holes.

If those are made by ALCOA they should be high quality, made for the aerospace industry. However, I would be more inclined to have them filled in by a certified welder, then drilled and tapped.

I agree. I'd use the on castings, but not sheet metal.

On trick I've used is to weld a nut on a rod or flat stock (1/8" by 1/2") then work it into the frame, line up with the hole and mount the arm.

I found some through the local Fastenal store. I cannot go to a larger hole in the idler bracket because the stocl bolts pass through the frame and also through a sleeve within the frame section (to avoid crushing the inner and outer frame metal). If I went bigger on the idler bracket and threaded it the larger bolt may not work in the existing frame holes. I also think the metal in the idler bracket is to soft to hold a hardened bolt. With these inserts being hardened I should be OK. We will see?????

I have seen these used with great success on blocks and heads. http://www.timesert.com/html/faq.html

Why not weld the idler arm hole shut, drill and tap to original bolt thread size. Or, the welder could get fancy and use a piece of copper tube/rod, of the proper diameter, in the hole and weld around it. Remove the copper and thread the hole. Proper placement is critical either way. Let us know how it works out. Chuck
