The biggest problem is we are retiring more warships than we are building.

Its too bad....My uncle been on board the Enterprize a few times....That side of my family is pure navy....He told me back then it was out of date...Had 8 reactors instead of 4 big ones....Pretty much the test platform for all our modern super carriers..She was a little bit longer than our big nimitz class carriers...Yet smaller in bulk and storage and plane capacity..And with no parts she was costing more to fix than building another one..But she outlasted all carriers....50 years is a good run for a old girl that was only suposta go 25....I never been on board her...But got to cruze on the carrier carl vincent for a week with my uncle....from pearl habor too san fran...He was a chief on board..And got to board the missouri and see her with the original guns and superstructure before they refitt her.....Hate too see a peice of working history go..but i guess we all out live our usefullness some day.

Sad, but as the article said, at least there will probably be another Enterprise in the future as this is the 8th one.
