But I just finished the first phone interview with a recruiter for my daughter to swim in college. No guarantees but it was exciting just to get the first phone call. better than "thank you for applying BUT" LOL

Wish I could get a college recruiter to call about my son, as it is the only calls I get from the university are how I want to pay for his next classes, check or credit card.

That's got to be a great feeling. It makes you real proud to know that someone thinks that your child is as special as you do! Good luck and I hope that she receives many more offers.

I guess I was a bad dad. When mine were very young I began telling them that they didn't have to go to college if they didn't want to. We just wanted them to be happy. As a shipyard worker I didn't make enough to send them to college and I told them so. If they decided to go, they were either going to have to earn scholarships or work their way through. My son was the "dumb" one. He worked his way all the way through a Masters degree. Then took loans to go to Medical school. This June, he will finish his residency in Charleston, WV in Internal Medicine and Psychiatry. The middle one was the only one that had any athletic ability and she informed us that she wasn't going to work her way through college. She said that athletics actually "worked" their way through because of all of the practices and competitions. She was Valedictorian and ended up with a full ride for degrees in Political Science and Sociology. She is now a social worker. The baby was Salutatorian and got a full ride as well. She got student loans for her last two years so that she could live on campus. (We're only six miles from the Univ. of So. Ala. campus.) She got degrees in Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, and a minor in Physics. She now lives in the Hartford, CT area and works for Pratt and Whitney.

I watched many of my friends and co-workers go broke trying to provide "opportunities" for their children who just never seemed to appreciate it. They would move from one interest to another and quite often end up quitting school altogether. I was guilty of doing that. When I finally had to pay my own way it meant much more to me! Man, do I wish that I had known then what I know now.

Best wishes for your daughter's continued success!!! With the right coach, who knows, maybe she will make the Olympics.

T-Tom, I too worked in a shipyard back in the day. No money and no adult in my family had a clue about the process. I worked for Nashville Bridge in Nashville building oil tankers and tug boats.

both my girls are smart enough this one maybe the smartest but a bit lazy. Knows her stuff straight A's in Biology Algebra etc. does most without study. Now all of a sudden she wants to be active participant in her college process lol. As for swimming she's realistic that she is at best a D2 swimmer. good but not the best, but she's our Olympic swimmer. So if a D2 or 3 school wants her....guess what they will have a chance.

My wife is the Master Motivator/Mover. I'll be the first to say that I married up, LOL.

I worked at Ingalls Shipbuilding/Litton Industries/Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding/Huntington-Ingalls in Pascagoula, MS for 41 years. This was always the same place, just a name change. Most of the contracts were for our government. I retired two years ago. During my career I rode 188 "sea trials" on ships ranging from Israeli Corvettes to the Battleship Iowa. I've calculated that spent nearly two years at sea.

Wow that is indeed cool. my job wasnt quite as glamous I just made sure the seams were welded together so it wouldnt sink. My claim to fame is the Maria j owned by Ingram Barge still runs the track from the lower port up to Ky. She still floats :huh: I'm surprised the props were set and the tolerance gaps were..... wait there WERE NO Tolerance ...just GAPS lol. I looked my boss ole James what that hell who ordered the props too small. He just laughed and said that' what I got you for Carter...MAKE IT WORK. she didnt leak when I finished.

had the mouse poised and ready for a click huh? LOL I resemble that statement. Thank you my friend. This weekend she is seeded 6th in 100 Breaststroke. That stroke will be the attention getter for college along with individual medley and on the 200 she is incredibly dangerous. Kid hits her pace and doesn't run out of steam. she starts losing them after 150 pulls away like its nothing. her nemesis is the short sprints

Okay so here is the latest proud dad moment. My daughters leaving to go to the school and hop on the bus for the road trip. She's just grinning then says hey dad this is like Talledega Nights (which I had no clue she's ever seen before) and starts quoting ! LOL :banana:lollerz

well some days just arent your day. She won 8th losing 3 spots from the preliminary. but hey she was in the finals and I told her to be happy with that, many schools and many other children would have been delighted to have that spot. [/align]Full year to get ready for her senior year.

Keep training. You've just got to hope that she can keep the hormones in check to some extent for the next year or so.

Well making the finally is great,once your there it can be anyones game. I grabbed a national title by a third of a point, if you make the finally you have a chance and lots of eyes would of been watching. Never know what can happened in a year goodluck
