This happened on the submarine I was on. The tug lost power and hit the rear stabilizer. Surprised that this showed up on internet.

Lots of wind noise as when they do transfers both ships are moving.

That's wild. what is the full story?
Had to do an emergency transfer for a crewman so the transfer took place off of Midway island. Both ships doing about 10 knots and the tug lost power alongside as it was about to pull away. The rear vertical stabilizer ripped a hole in the tug. You can see in the video that ths subs rudder is full right trying to swing the rear away from the the tug but 18,000 tons and 560 ft long takes time to do at slower speeds. As the tug sinks you can see smoke coming out the exhaust. The two that died were in the engine room trying to get it started and they did but it was too late.

Wow thanks for sharing such a cool story

Thanks for sharing, jbojo. Damn, that reminds me of other incidents years ago when I was in the Navy and served with guys that lost lives or limbs trying to do their jobs to the best of their ability. Those are the ones that had the heart and spirit that, sadly, I don't see as much as I wish I would as a high school administrator today.

Again, thanks for the post and sorry for the rant.

I came across this months ago, damn that must've been wild to have gone through that.
