Yep posted this just after Christmas. http://www.7173mustangs.com/thread-new-ford-gt

I like it a lot but sure wish they had placed a V8 engine in it!!

Too true about the V8 thing as there has been talk about Ford doing this to gauge interest in an eco boost performance cars to see if the V8 will be sustained after 2017 Mustang. Let's hope the V8 will live on, but the howl from the greenies about dirty V8's is what will win in the end unfortunately. Also people that love these type of cars ain't really loving the V6 thing no matter how good it is. I personally know of one guy who got all excited about the car when he heard about, but the mention of it being a V6 only, he said, won't be lining up and paying a fortune this time to get one of these over here. He reckons he'll just keep his older one because at least it's still a V8 and it still looks more like his old kit car GT 40 which is an extraordinary car. Still I bet Ford will sell every one of them.

2016 GT:

The tan 1974 Mustang II Ghia of the automotive world, without the brown vinyl roof.

Sure, they'll sell every one of them, but... :s

You guys need t remember that V8s are an American thing (and maybe Australian). Or kea say V8s matter only to U.S. Car guys.

A typical European high performance sports car would have a V12, so the V8 is not mandatory. Even the top makers of exclusive sports cars would use V6s, think Jaguar, Lotus even used 4 bangers.

So the V6 in this car is not really a problem on the world market.

I think its the legendry roots that have established the expectation of a high winding high hp V8 and rightly so in my opinion. A v6 seems a backward step in expectation kinda like if Ferrari said lets make v6 supercars or a diesel in a Lambo it doest sit well regardless of how impressive the engineering. Same with the new mustangs there is no way I would buy a ecoboost over the V8 my heart just wouldn't allow it regardless of how logical the ecoboost option is.

Good point fellas.

Here in the States back in the '80's, the automakers tried their hand at the turbo/supercharged marketing... Turbo T-Birds, Supercoupes, Turbo Fox Mustangs, SVO Mustangs, Buick Grand Nationals, Supercharged Regals, Grand Prix, and even LeSabres. There were many others as well, but all fizzled out after a 10 year run or so.

To me, all of this Ecoboost stuff is just another wave of marketing.

Is the Ecoboost a global thing as well?

Ecoboost is part marketing, but also reality, Ford's effort to meet EPA's fuel mileage requirements. I believe it is part of their global marketing.

A turbocharged V6 in a new F150 that has more horsepower and torque than my 5.4L V8, plus improving gas mileage by 25%+ is impressive.

The main reason for the turbo/super charged cars of the 80s was to improve anemic (EPA again) performance. The introduction and/or improvement of fuel injection and computer controls improved both performance and fuel mileage far better.

Improved materials and manufacturing quality will hopefully increase the longevity and durability of the new turbos.

For me its not even about turbos and longevity. I have had VW and Subaru's for daily drivers the technology is fine and ultra reliable. Just not what I would want in a car like a GT40 or Mustang stupid but its a matter of that emotive response you have for muscle cars. really weird because when we get them I always think about sticking blowers or turbos on them. Case in point all black hemi cuda drool all black hemi cuda with a 8/71 and tubs drool and a strange tingle in the gentleman's area;) all black cuda with tubs and a 1000hp v6 boner gone, car guys are strange animals

From what I read, the aussie versions will be a turbo 4 or the v8.

He drove the 4 and was impressed, but also said the exhaust note is embarrasing.

I can see the rice crowd buying these and putting fart canons on them.

And I ain't paying 70k+ for the v8.

"Wow, I could have had a V8"

Putting in this technical brilliant performance V6 (no matter how good it is) in a car like this is wrong. It's like taking your sister to the local dance with you, sure it you can do it, but would really want to, of course not, you know it's just plain wrong.
