Does someone have a picture of the hole and the actual drain plug on the trunk drop offs? Thanks, Ryan.

Heres the link to drain plugs on NPD;

https://www.npdlink.com/store/products/plug_trunk_floor_2-167759-1.html

This is the full plug kit for all the holes on the car;

https://www.npdlink.com/store/products/plug_and_grommet_kit-100089-1.html

This is the 91971) link to trunk drop-off panel with the drain plug holes;

https://www.npdlink.com/store/?p=catalog&mode=newsearch&search_str=trunk+drop+off+panel&parent=1&year=1971

Hope this helps.

I got a 2 inch square of rust around my left hand drop off plug hole so i bought a complete drop off panel. They are under $17 so worth replacing the entire drop off IMO

I'm not sure those are actually 'drain holes,' per se... they're not anywhere close to the bottom of the quarter panels/trunk drop-offs.

I know one of those holes is for the fuel sender wiring to pass thru to the rear-end harness.

I also believe the 'drain holes' for the quarter panel/trunk drop-off junction is simply a small opening at the lowest point, exiting into the rearward bottom edge of the wheel well opening.

I could be wrong, though.

Peg leg, the plugs that you show are for the trunk floor holes above the frame rails. I have the plug kit that you list. I found a picture of the plugs on the 429 mustangcougar website. I would like to see how the plugs are installed on an original car. A lot of cars that have had the trunk dropoffs replaced do not have these.

I believe the holes towards the front of the dropoffs are for the drain plugs and the one towards the rear is for the fuel sending grommet.

My hole toward the front of the drop off have round bungs in them too. As this hole is at the lowest point in the trunk i would assume thats where the water would drain down to. So logically thats where a bung would go to drain off as well as keeping water out whilst driving on wet roads. General Motors-Vauxall-Opel used the same bungs in the same place in the 70's here in the U.K.

Here are a few picture of my original drop offs. The rubber insert is a 'valve' that will allow water through it provide it is kept clear. I tried to picture it from inside with a mirror which unfortunately is not too clear. The top hole is a cable pass through plug.

Hope this helps with your issue.

Yes, that helps a lot! Thanks for the pictures. Thanks everyone else for the replies. Ryan

I would appreciate it if you have a link to a vendor that sells those drain plugs as i am going to need a pair.

From those pictures i get the impression they fit via the exterior of the drop off panel

Sorry about that. I'll see if I can send you some warm 26f Illinois weather up to ya. Ryan

Excellent illustration by Stanglover and we certainly appreciate you "Taking One for the Team" by freezing certain body parts to get that picture! You can search C7ZZ-6511202-A and see that there are several venders that sell what appears to be a Scott Drake manufactured part. Ford nomenclature for these drains were: Seal-rear floor pan extension drain. I would start with Don (OMS) to see if that is a product he stocks. I have provided a link so that you can see what the Scott Drake units look like. http://dennis-carpenter.com/quarter-panel-drain-valve/p/C7ZZ-6511202-A/

Thanks Steve, but it was no big deal really. It's when it hits -20 C, now that's getting cold. Fortunately here in SW Ontario, those temps aren't felt too often, but when it does, you can hear the hair in your nose freeze!!

Just one further note on these drains. They are USELESS if they are not kept clear, dirt and mug get in them and then your quarter rots out and you wonder "why"!!

Just to add something that I did to my car to prevent water getting into the trunk in the first place, was to use good RTV, black around the outside of the rear light lens frames and clear around the actual lenses and the aluminum frame. This part needs to be done with a small nozzle to make sure that the RTV gets deep in between the lens and frame. Done carefully, no-one will ever notice and the water, rain or otherwise will stay out. Let the RTV dry completely and spray with water, redo if necessary. Actually, it would be best to do the lenses before installing into the car.... duh! Also, a good trunk rubber seal is a must for a completely dry trunk.

As for the rubber drains, they are available from NPD as well.

Geoff.

All,

The next big question is, "Is it a square hole or a round hole? If square, then what are the dimensions?" . Since the reproduction parts do not include the mounting hole.

Do I have to crawl under the car again!!! It's down to 9 deg F in the garage today.

Actually a good question. Pretty sure it's the shape of the rubber. I'll take a look tomorrow and confirm if no-one else does first.

Geoff.
