Trunk Seal

Working on the car this weekend I noticed from the last rain there was quite a bit of water in the trunk.  I suppose my trunk seal is shot.

I was looking around and found this seal from Steele Rubber Products.

It looks like a good part.

I was just curious if the larger flap goes towards the outside or towards the inside.

I saw a trunk seal thread a week ago or so and they said it was to be glued in using gasket glue.

Does anyone have a particular glue recommendation?

I use 3M wheatherstrip glue. I cant remember right now the orientation of the seal.

Use 3M black weather strip adhesive in the bottom of the channel, flap should sit on top of the surrounding sheetmetal, not in the channel. Start at the top center and work the strip around on one side, trim at the latch center, then do the other side and trim at the center. Take care not to stretch the material, or it'll leave a huge gap in the middle. Don't glue the ends together, any water that sneaks in needs a place to drain, and you'll also create a balloon.

Let it dry for a day or two before attempting to close the trunk lid. Lube the strip up with silicone grease to ease closing of the lid. Once you manage to get it closed, leave it closed for a week to allow the rubber to take a set. Heat helps.....

I do not see any air vent holes in the rubber in the picture. Will make the trunk harder to close. All this info in a previous post.

I saw that thread, recall it was said to punch a few holes so the air can escape.

Any tips on how to make good looking tiny holes?

Fabrice,

The suggestion was to heat up a nail and use it to melt holes. Sounds like a viable option as long as you can keep them in line. I'm not sure how many holes per foot there are.
