Hi All

So the Ignitor 3 has arrived and all pretty straight forward to put it in and get running but the Vac advance is extremely stiff like when i had it off it was very stiff and when on the dizzy i cant get it to move at all . Its my first dizzy pull down and im happy it is all running again but yeh should the vac advance be so rigid ?

thanks

Fat Dave

Is the engine running? It sounds as though you have installed it back and gone for a drive?

Easy check is to get a timing light check the curve through the revs with the vacc adv disconnected and again when connected.

That'll soon tell you if it's working.

If you're still not sure about it and are happy to pull it off, for all the trouble you go through, for a few bucks I'd just get an adjustable vacc adv module from eBay.

is it possible you have an adjustable vacuum advance and somebody turned the adjustment screw all the way in?

that would lock out the vacuum advance there is a small flathead screw inside the tube of the vacuum advance where the hose connects, see if the screw is turned all the way in, if it is. turn it all the way out, then you go for a drive and observe the engine pinging,, turn the screw in 2 turns at a time, until the ping stops, next go back and turn the screw out 1 turn and see it it pings, if no ping, go head and turn it back in 1 turn and leave for a week and drive the car, if it slightly pings when hot from traffic then turn it 1 turn in again. that will setup the vacuum advance with some throw for timing.

thanks guys

breaker plate moves Don when disconected

and I ll check that screw tommorow night on the Vac advance

if you want you can hook up a hose to the vacuum advance and pop the distributor cap off so you can see it,,

suck air through the hose and watch the advance, adjust the screw and repeat and you can see if it moves more or less.
