I can do the tach in 6 or 8 cyl, 6K or 8K RPM.

(Regarding the GM HEI distributor - there's a reason Chevrolet hid that piece of automotive ugly at the BACK of the engine.)
Why did I think you could only do a 6cyl 8K? Is the 6K a recent addition?

If you're looking for durability and ease of maintenance, as well as stock appearing, you can get a DuraSpark distributor and control module from RockAuto.

The control module with the red strain relief is the most sophisticated DS module
Ford produced, to meet California emission standards, cost a little more, but does control the spark better.

If you don't want to go this route, I agree with the Pertronix units. I have used them in the past and they sure beat points. However, in the event of a malfunction you can't go to an Autozone and get a replacement without ordering it. The Duraspark control module is readily available at most parts stores.

And finally, I agree that the HEIs are double bag ugly. Not only that, the Duraspark is a much better electronic ignition, and the Pertronix is just as good, if not a little better than the HEI.
