I went to dinner tonight with my girlfriend and another couple. As we came up to the front of the restaurant, I was stunned by what I saw. A glorious fellow 1972 Mach1. As I starred in awh, my girflriend just looked at me with the typical woman glare and kept on walking. This was suppose to be the one day that I was not allowed to ramble on about cars, more specifically mustangs....Well, at least I got through 85% of the day that way. Haha. I looked it over, making sure it wasn't that of a clone, and then continued to do a walk around until our table was called for dinner. I was hoping to catch the owner but saw nobody for awhile. I was persistent on seeing who owned it, and finally caught up with the owner as I jogged out of the restaurant after hearing the purrr of that beast start up. Managed to grab a business card from him and mentioned to him about the upcoming Ford show at Knotts Berry Farm later this month. Maybe we'll have another forum member in the future....for now, here's a photo.

Looks threatening. :)

Here's a question for my friends in California: how can it have black plates? I thought CA had switched to blue plates in 71?
You are correct! 1970 was the last year that black plates with yellow letters were issued. A car purchased in 1970 may have been sold with either type of plate depending on the time of year the car was purchased.

However, there is a big market in California for restored plates. If he bought a set of black plates (which I'd be the did since a white plate, or even a blue plate, would not compliment his blacked out theme) he can apply for "custom" plates with the vintage plate number. Cut up the plates they send him, and run the classic plates. I don't know that it's 100% legal, but I know a decent number of classic car guys who do it.

+1on being able to get vintage plates. CA also has brought back vintage plates for purchase on the CA DMV website. They had to get about 7500 preorder requests to put them into production. I know when I checked last year, they were getting close. They are doing the 50's yellow and black, 60's black and yellow, and 70's blue and yellow. Of course being it's CA, they always want a lot of $$$ and in the FAQs it said it would take upwards of 9months to receive it....Ya, I'll stick to my white and blue custom CA plate. Speaking of which, I just got my registration renewal notice and....a whopping $200 Ridiculous!!! CA does have the best weather and alot of beautiful woman but the state rapes you on taxes and fees every chance they get.

I like the color scheme - looks good!

Besides that - I am always delighted when I see one of our cars from that angle. It is the same look that receives me when I am entering my garage - I love this fantastic shape and lines as showed in this 2 pictures very well...

Kinder,

What's the Chrome emblem on the rear passenger side? I can't quite make it out in the pictures.

That was a interesting piece, almost like how the camaro s have the SS badging in red on the back. This one said" 351" in red with something written underneath. I think it was 5.8 liter printed underneath but it was one emblem. Pretty positive I've seen that emblem in the NPD catalog, but I'm not sure where it would naturally go on the car.

Hmmm, I had a feeling it might have been something like that. Maybe a better location would be the front fender similar to where the 5.0 wears its' badging now? Though I feel like a 351 C.I.D. tag would wear really well where the "Ram Air" normally goes on the hood

Agreed.

And here's the one it was.

I really like it, the old 70 yellow on black license plates was a really nice touch (did he paint his car around the license plate?). Hopefully he'll join the site so we can learn more about that beauty.
