Winshield Wiper motor issuse

Ok guys trying to get the wipers going on my uncles car to take to Ky this weekend for the show. Problem is the wipers will not work. They worked for a time then quit. So figured the motor was bad, so we swapped it out last night. Tested it with the rod to the wipers unhooked. It seemed to work as advertised, hooked up the wipers and nothing. Good voltage, connections, and even swapped the switch. Unhooked the wipers and it would run as advertised again:huh::huh::huh: So it was getting late so headed home to tackle again later today. Any similar cases?

The pivot shafts have to be in the parked position. My factory shop manual gives the following info:

Arm and Blade Assembly: Remove the arm and blade assemblies from the pivot shafts. turn on the wiper switch, allow the motor to move the pivot shafts three or four cycles, and then turn off the wiper switch. This will place the pivot shafts in the park position. Install the arm an blade assemblies on the pivot shafts to dimension X as shown in Fig 8.....

I will try to scan the page with the dimension X info and post up.

Sounds like one of the wiper transmissions has froze up.

Motor was parked and you can move the wiper assembly with the rod that connects to the motor by hand very easy.

I've had the park switch in the gear box go bad but, given the symptoms and the the things you've tried (2 motors/switches) it sounds like the linkage is binding. Has the linkage been disassembled? Chuck

Seems if it was binding you would feel it when you moved it by hand. Gonna head over after work and try again. Thanks for all the inputs so far.

Ok after a couple of hours of looking for something wrong reinstalled the motor to fill the hole and decided time to regroup and start from the switch back, It is a painless harness so will have to find the diagram used to wire it, but checked weather for Ky and 0 chance of rain next 3 day so hopefully will be ok.

Ahhh, You forgot to mention in the 1st post that the harness had been swapped.

Since the motor was running with the arms detached I was thinking it was the park adjustment. Strange!

I've been using Rain X since the 70's, works great if you take the time to apply it right so it dosen't streak.

Your right, Rain X is about the only rain the 73 sees, but I do use it on the 04 Mach 1 and our other cars. The Rain X washer fluid helps make the application last longer too.
