Ok, so I am restoring a 73 convertible. However, I still like to drive it everyday. I am at a crossroads on the next purchase. My car has stock wheels and the whitewall tires. I really think it make the car look... well, boring. I also have the stock single exhaust, which makes the car sound... well, boring.

So what would you do first...

Get a set of Magnum 500s and BF Radial Tires (Better visual appeal)

or

Put Exhaust on it (Better sound)

Mind you, I'm going to do both, just can do either one or other with present budget.

My vote would be for the better exhaust first, not only for the "sound" but with the right choices you should have better performance and mileage.

The duals actually improves the "looks" too, in my opinion:)!

If you are looking to customize/mod your car, I'd also go with the wheels first. Get the repro 15 inch Magnums. They feel out the wheel wells much better with a 235 or 245 series tire.

Save the original tires and wheels.

I agree with the general consensus: get some new wheels.

However, if you're asking which is cheaper - exhaust is cheaper... unless you're talking about going from manifolds to headers as well. Then, you're looking at about the same ballpark figures.

Wheels make the car, IMHO.

Here's a comparison:

I am leaning the same way, just needed some other points of view... :)

Simple: mechanical mods should always be done beofore cosmetic mods.

But, the exception is wheels and tires to me. Some nice rims and tires will dramatically change the appearance, and ultimately your enjoyment of the car every single time you drive it. Do the wheels and tires first.
