I know that the boss cars were standard traction lock 3.91 rears, but were there options? Was the 4.11 an option for these cars?

cobra94svt, the info I have is that the 71 Boss had the 3.91 gear standard as you posted with no optional ratios offered. The 4.11 was an optional gear over the 3.91 with the Drag Pack 429 Mustangs. If you had a 429 Torino/Cyclone with the Drag Pack, there was an optional 4.30 gear over the standard 3.91.

Edit..checked my 72 info and same thing. The "R" HO had a 3.91 gear standard with no optional gear available.

No Officer...I really don't know how fast I was going, my speedometer stopped at 140!

Just to echo Secluff on the 3.91 gears, check out this link on the 71 BOSS 351. There is some good information here about the BOSS.

The Ford research letter list it with "optional 4.11 locking rear". But been told they are wrong sometimes. The invoice says optional locking rear.

Completely concur with Steve (Secluff) and others declaring same. No BOSS 351 cars ever factory equipped with ANY rear axle other than the 3.91 Traction Lock. This is straight from actual production data. Those reports you mention are commonly incorrect.
