Undercoating

I’m getting ready to have my car undercoated. If I use ziebart I’ve heard that it leads to suspicion that some bad work is covered up. I thought I would take pictures before the work is done to show that not to be the case. Does anyone have any suggestions besides ziebart?

I used bed liner for the bottom of mine and it has held up well.

I hear "Lizard Skin" is good too.
However, it's the same question, " what has been covered up?".
On my car, which is rust free, I chose NOT to do anything to the underside between the firewall and the rear bumper. I left it original and as is, other than a good cleaning.
If you must put something on it, perhaps a clear oil spray of some sort, but this will attract dirt and grime, so what's the answer?

Some before and after pics are all that you'll need. Don't have a recommendation on undercoating.

After removing all the old under coating and seeing how messy and that it retains moisture I am not gonna use anything besides some rust encapsulater platinum and then spray over it with black. Inside I will use lizard skin though.

I was gonna use that for the engine bay, I probably still should didn’t even think about it for the underside. I’m gonna have a million gallons of paint…

Personal opinion: any application will reduce sale-ability and therefore value. I keep mine in the garage and wash out the wheel wells when I wash the car. No bicycles or garbage cans allowed in my garage.

I've used POR15 with excellent results. It dries to a hard coating.

Woahhhh not Rich or Dick or Richard....That looks really smart. And a chassis rotisseri in your garage; mate thats cool. If for no other reason than to push the project to the side of the garage so the wife can get her Rolls Royce inside.

I had mine rhino lined and then painted so that I felt more comfortable driving around and being protected from water, rust, and chips.

WoolWax, FluidFilm and other lanolin and "oil undercoat" products really aren't something you'd use on the exterior underside of a restored car. I'd use them as a cavity wax product, to protect the interior of the frame rails, doors, quarters and other areas. They stay soft and are messy to work around.

I've used RustBullet products for about six years and am very happy with how they hold up. The rear frame of my daily driver 2500HD was stripped and painted with RB when I repaired the rust and redid the entire brake system. I coated the repaired floors and cowl with RB in our 71 XR7 last fall.

I think you'll find that the vast majority of Mustangs rot from the inside out due to water leaks. IMO, the key to longevity is to fix all of the water intrusion issues, and to keep them a dry as possible. While a Saturday morning wash and polish might seem as American as apple pie, it just ends up keeping the interior of the panels wet, promoting rust. I haven't washed my 71 for four years. It's kept in the garage uncovered and cleaned up with a California Duster and an instant detailer product.
