Back on July 31, I posted to vent some frustration and bad news in another thread. My son’s ‘69 Coupe had been rear ended. I knew there was going to be an insurance fight, and got prepared. By the end of August we learned things were going to turn out OK. We had a healthy check from the insurance company and a plan forward. We figured out a plan to repair and repaint the entire car. He will have some money left over for some upgrades, so it really turned out well for the car. My son is still dealing with some issues from the accident, but he is doing OK.

We subcontracted the frame pull and the rear body panel replacement, but otherwise my son and I did all the work. Today we finally made it to paint application. I did most of the painting but I did have a co-worker apply the clear to the body and fenders while I cleared a bunch of other parts in the other spray booth. No shame in handing the gun over to an expert.

I know it isn’t a 71-73, but it’s what we have! A few pics from today’s work, some with clear, some still in base.

That looks great! One of my favorite colors on the 69 coupes. I've always thought a red coupe, lowered 1", with Magnum 500s and fat tires looks aggressive.

Glad your son is going to be ok and it's a mustang, you all are part of a family the year does not matter. It looks great and it's always such an amazing time when the clearcoat gets laid down, congrats!

Glad all has worked out for your son and his car. Color looks good and glad to hear another one is returning to the road in a better state. Keep us posted. Do you have any pictures of the accident damage. Not wanting to bring back any bad thoughts just an opportunity to understand the extent of work to get you back to this point.

bkdunha—here are the two I have. My son has more I am sure. First generation Mustangs don’t do real well in a rear ender. The frame rails bend or kink right over the rear axle. This one had bends in both, but bends can be fixed. Kinks require replacement and would have been too costly to justify repairing.

That looks like it took a pretty heavy hit. My wife's 67 coupe had a similar collision with the frame bent above the axle. She was at a stop light when she was hit by the other car going an estimated 35 mph. We were fortunate she wasn't seriously injured and the Ford dealership's body shop was able to repair the car. Dealing with the other driver's insurance company was an ordeal, though.
