Humm, Marti says only R codes in 71 were Boss and No R code 72 models with auto. Would like to see a Marti and pic of the door sticker. Could be one of those odd ball ones that keep coming up. Remember the two Boss 302 71's that got out the door and one still around.

It's definitely an automatic shifter in the picture. If I had to guess, I'd say maybe the second digit was an "R" (San Jose plant) and the seller just isn't very knowledgeable on all things Ford.
