1972 Battery tray color

I was looking closely at the 1972 HO survivor article pictures. The battery tray appears to be slop grey or a color other than black. Can anyone confirm the color of an unrestored 1972? Thanks, Chuck

That's the factory "red oxide" color, right?

That's the color I seen replacing my first battery after 4 years. Would have felt better if it was just black

there was a long discussion here I saw not long ago about just this, If I remember correctly the tray was the same slop grey as the headlamp brackets.

I will have to go look close at my 73 but I think it is black. I know NOS ones are black have a couple of them.
