I was cleaning the original rocker arms yesterday.

I noticed a number stamped on them. At first, I thought maybe cylinder designation, but that didn't hold up. Then maybe exhaust and intake designation. That wasn't it either. The stampings were 1 to 3 in no particular order.
One of the attached pictures shows starting at number 1 cylinder 2,1,1,3.

Did a quick Internet search but couldn't find anything mentioning stamping on the rocker arms.

Anybody have any ideas what this could be?20230128_103007.jpg

I was thinking tolerance marks to get to desired lifter preload.
I know service had offered different length pushrods, don't know if production did.

High-volume metal parts like rocker arms use multiple-cavity dies in their tooling. Each cavity is number stamped so any problems or defects in a rocker arm can be traced backed to the specific cavity for tooling repair.....Same applies to most injection-molded plastic parts......
