stupid question time what does a state inspection look at? In Ontario we have to have a car certified before we can get plates so they look at things like brakes lights frame......things to make sure the car is safe tobe on the road. Does a state inspection do the same thing?

In PA its pretty much same thing. They check that all lights work , brakes, frame, horns, ball joints, all steering components, pretty much go over whole car and report on all deficencies. It must pass all these things to get the approved inspection sticker. This has to be done once a year. In some countys you also have to pass a smog tailpipe sniffer test. But if the car is as old as ours they are excempt. Its a big pain in the arse. But if you have antique plates you dont have to get an inspection, but if you have classic or reg plates you do. Hope this helps.
