3A speedo gear

My fmx had the longer pilot shaft on it, I got the new 21 tooth gear for my speedo cable and it has a short pilot shaft. When I look at the CJ site for speedo gears it says the 21 tooth 3A is for the 4 speed top loader. Do I need the longer pilot or can I use the shorter pilot 21 tooth in my fmx?

Look at page 183 in the National Parts Depot catalog. It gives good information on LH and RH rotation. The 4 peed driven gears are the opposite pitch from the auto trans and 3 speed manuals. Chuck
