Looks good. I also had the same problem with the battery support. I was fortunate enough to find one in very good shape out of the mustang sibling cougar. West Coast Cougar has helped me out with alot of good salvage original parts. I know that they have recently been selling out and scraping their salvage yard.
Are you saying WCC is closing? I have been trying to get in touch and they never respond.

I am for sure not up to speed on all that was offered in 71. In that time period CB radios were the hot thing. Is it possible that the rear antenna was a dealer added CB antenna option? Maybe one of our old Ford sales guys like Steve can shed some light. If it was dealer option to be correct you would remove for sure.

I have a hole in the left rear of my 73 vert that has never been painted for something.

It was just a thought on my part. The car had its original radio antenna in the standard front passenger fender location, I think it has been there since the car was built.

I can't think of any other reason the hole and three attachment holes would be in that location rear 1/4 panel location. When it was removed many, many years ago, someone did a quick fix, tacking in a piece of metal and then lots of bondo to make her look good...

I don't recall ever seeing any Ford sales literature advertising the CB radio option for the Mustang. Would have to go through my pile of stuff to see it it was possible and I agree, these units were all the rage back in the day. Dealer installed? anything at this point is possible, but I don't have the necessary documentation to back up this possibility.


Not 100% sure but I believe the CB option was not offered in our generation Mustang. Around 75/ it started showing up in T-birds, LTD,s, Lincoln's, etc.

Since radios were not standard in our cars, antenna holes were not pre-drilled at the factory. If you did order a radio, it would be in the dash, but it was up to the dealer to drill holes for the antenna and hook everything up. There was a universal electric antenna offered by Ford Parts that came with everything needed for the dealer to install on the Q/panel. The holes on Pastel Blues car was probably an aftermarket install. Back in the mid 70's forward when the CB was the "Thing" seems like anybody and everybody had a CB install shop on every street corner.

Having to do a lot of this by memory. Lost a ton of Ford sales pamphlets, order guides, accessories books etc when I had a storage building destroyed during hurricane Hugo during 1989. Been living in MS for 2 years now, but have parts and more papers in storage in SC that may be trash. One of storage buildings with the papers took on about 3 feet of water during the insane rain they had in October. Going there for Christmas and will see what if anything I have left.

If I don't have anything left, I could always make an offer on that beautiful 59 Impala vert and start over! lollerz

You will note a difference in these two pictures. In one, the passenger side upper cowl area leading above the upper door hinge area has been sprayed with sealer. Whereas, on the driver side upper cowl A/C car so no actual cowl) area; no sealer applied in this same area that faces to the outside of the car. It could be that they did not spray dues to the actual lack of a cowl opening, however, there is still a seam that has no protection. What do you think? Did they miss it or was it an Ford engineering decision not to spray this seam, due to no cowl opening?

When I re-spray the sealer, this area will be sprayed, not taking any chances...
I will have to look at a couple of my cars and see after Christmas. In areas where there was an overlap of the metal that was exposed to water Ford usually put "Weld Through" sealer between the panels. Like around where the wheel house joins the quarter panel or the quarter to the door jam. If you remove any signs of sealer there it is impossible to duplicate the look since the sealer had to be between the panels before spot welding.

The sealer would more likely be where the water would try to enter than where it would try to exit.

When they put things like hood or roof inner and outer together they put the mastic sealer between area that touch to seal around the edge and also prevent oil canning of the hood or roof after assembly. If you dip strip this is also impossible to duplicate without taking the skin panel off which is nearly impossible. The hood, trunk, doors went through a hemming die that broke the edges over 45 deg. and then formed them flat and crimped to the inner.

I do not know if anyone has the sealer apply documents or not did Osborne not offer them at one time?

That sucks that you lost all your reference material. Your were becoming my go to guy, lol. What part of S.C.? I had a leak in a storage building that took out hundreds of car ads, owners manuals, pictures and such that I use to take to swap meets. Most of the Ford dealers tossed tons of paper and never thought it was worth anything.

It is raining here again it never stops long enough to dry out. I live on a hill so not going to flood unless we get 100 feet of rain.

David I worked on replacing a lot of what I lost after Hurricane Hugo from other dealers. I used to help some of the dealers with year end inventories and a lot of them knew I was a Mustang fanatic and collected everything. They would tell me that if it wasn't a computer disc it was being pitched when they did a after inventory clean up. I was able to replace some order guides, sales and parts info. But SC received some insane rain during Oct and once again I have "Paid the price". I don't normally talk about what I have stuck back...but I took a heavy hit this time. I had enough NEW "Stuff" to fill a U-Haul that I had collected for years to put my early build 71 Mach 1 back on the road that were under water.

I have been in MS for the past two years working on some projects. We're in SC now visiting for Christmas and entertaining family with my crying over my damaged "Stuff"

I did go by my old dealership and talk to the owner about all the micro-fische cards and a viewer that I put upstairs for "safe-keeping". When we hammer out a deal on that than I'll start in on the paper OSI catalogs and shop manuals. The OSI books were great for researching part number replacements and parts that were discontinued with no replacements. The fische cards go back to 1960, so there is a lot of info there. I need to do something soon, I have a lot of my buddies call me for Mustang info and they expect an answer! LOL
