D1AE-GA 1971... thinking these are from an "R-Code" (Boss Heads) because of the closed chamber, quench head design. "Q-Code," in 1971, would have been open chamber, unless I'm mistaken. They have Guide Plates and Studs. These heads had extensive brazing work done, by some previous owner during the last 40 years, to the exhaust ports to increase flow velocity. Wasn't finished ported and the intake side is untouched. The work isn't "pretty," but someone definitely spent some time. (pics are representative of all ports) Otherwise the heads are fine. Value isn't too high but shipping might cost an additional $90±? If interested, make an offer.

D1AE-GA heads are likely from an M code, and have had the machine work done to use adjustable rockers and guide plates, unless they are the Crane adapters. The 351 Boss heads are D1ZE-B.

I have been using this place to check I.D. on Ford castings has a pretty good data base. http://mustangtek.com/heads/Heads.html

I cannot swear that the info is correct but the D1AE-GA head is listed there for mustang and torino and had 64 CC chambers. The Boss is stated there as 75.4 cc. So these heads would be higher compression than boss depending on the piston head shape.

I believe that the shape of the exhaust port with the extra bump near the threads for the bolt is unique to Boss 351 heads. Actually I'm fairly certain of this but will check later tonight.

If so then these are 1971 Boss 351 heads.

Don, if you're referring to the bump at the top right of the exhaust port @ the bolt hole, all of the OE iron 4V's have that.

These are the "common" 4V-CC heads.

The '71 Boss had 66.1cc chambers, the '72s had the 75.4cc (open chamber) heads.

I think Don C is correct. These are converted M code heads. I had a set on my cleveland without the conversion done.
