My Car
Multiple Mustangs!
Just thought I would ask. I was at my friend Clay's shop yesterday and he had sprayed the color on a 1967 Pontiac Firebird HO 4 speed car. I has black vinyl roof and is metallic green. No clear on yet.

He is looking for a readable copy of the instructions to install the ram air on the car. There were only 200 made with ram air they were all dealer installed came in the trunk and dealer cut the hole and installed. Was not worth it for GM to build tooling for such low numbers. Do any of you have a copy of the instruction sheet for 67 Pontiac Firebird Ram Air? GM never put the measurements in a manual or service bulletin just the instructions that came with the car so the mechanic tossed them when done. Or do you have a car that measurements can be taken from? See Mustang is not only one difficult to document.

When he does the car he does the sheet metal replacement and body alignment sitting on the wheels. This car got full floor, one quarter, both front fenders and lots of patches welded in like around windshield opening. Once everything is aligned he takes the car back apart, frame off and puts on rotisserie and paints the car in pieces. He trims in all the interior like the factory would be, does the spatter in the trunk, flat black in engine compartment and masks off to apply the color. One of his cars won first place first time out at the Pontiac Nationals. BTW he has about a three year waiting period right now. The owner of this one has had Clay do several cars, black GTO judge one of 12 made, 1968 Mustang 428 4 Speed and I forget the others. He is a Dr. and loves cars.

So if anyone knows anyone that has a 1967 Pontiac Firebird HO Ram Air IV car please get in touch.

Sorry for lousy pics I just had junk camera with me.

Thanks,

David

I LOVE Pontiac Firebirds... period.

One of my very first car memories as a little kid was when I was four-ish - the neighbor's kid had a '67 Firebird (white with Cragars as a matter of fact), and I knew exactly what it was (probably the first words I'd successfully read and understood were "Pontiac," and "Firebird").  After I'd started looking for a hot rod to mess around with, I was hoping to find one... but I wasn't optimistic.

In fact, if it weren't for my having helped a friend bleed his brakes one day at the Auto Hobby Shop, I'd most likely be deep-rooted in a Pontiac Firebird forum, rather than here.  There is just no legroom at all in those cars - my knees were literally and painfully wedged up against the dash, just sitting in the car... and that was a 'vert, too.  My pal Gonzo's '67 Camaros are the same - no legroom at all.  Such a shame, both in that fact and that I didn't know about seat slider extenders and whatnot.  Oh well.

I never did find any prospective Gen I Firebird projects during my hunt through Craigslist and Auto Trader within the local area, and I stumbled across the Mustang anyway, so here we are.  :whistling:

You will hate this story. He got the car for free. Was renting a place to someone and they got behind on the rent two month. They offered the title to the bird for the late rent and he took it. Looked good at first glance as so many do but was a typical rust bucket of the day. It is a true, numbers matching Firebird HO 4 speed with ram air. I will post pics when the car is done to show how good Clay is on a restore.

While Clay has been doing this I keep pointing out how much better the Mustang is in lots of areas. The quality of the metal stampings in a GM car is bottom of the barrel. I cannot believe the burrs in the door openings way worse than Mustang. Also the wrinkles in the panels. The dash, floor are pitiful.

Love Firebirds too. You don't see many this side of the pond. Would Love to find a example on par with my 71 Mustang find but i am not going to build my hopes up. Looking forward to seeing pictures as you progress. Looking good so far

LOL, The firebird is not mine. A friend of mine that does restorations is doing it for a Dr. in town. I stated the year wrong also it is a 1968.

I am very biased on my cars. I have owned GM and never had any luck with them. Me being an automotive product, process and tooling engineer I understand how the cars are made. Ford was and still is way ahead of GM in their products. I will get some pictures of things on the firebird that are really bad as far as GM's ability to make quality parts.

Just trying to find him some info on the Ram Air hole for the hood.
