OK, so I'm really into music, and I like it pure, not necessarily loud... jst great sounding.

My '73 came with AM/FM radio, so there are speaker locations.

Are there any companies that make retro looking radios that use modern technology?

I'm willing to replace speakers. I'm willing to place the CD player out of sight...

Anyone out there plowed this ground already who can share their solution?

I'll leave this right here: http://www.casmfg.com/Ford_Radios.htm

Here's the competition to Classic Auto Sound:

http://www.retrosoundusa.com/products/category/id/1

Mustang Monthly just announced that Retrosound is introducing the 'Model 2' which also has Apple licensed software able to control iPods, iPads, and iPhones, along with Bluetooth connectivity, in addition to all the other goodies the Model 1 has.

I personally like the looks of the CAS USA-630, because I want the old school look as well... but I've heard bad stuff about the CAS units, and almost everybody that doesn't like them agrees that the Retrosound units are much better.

I dunno - both look great, but if one performs better, than I'm all over that. I'm also going to hold off til I see more about the Model 2 before making a decision.

Yup - and they look good, too. Although, Don (OMS) is now carrying them as well (the knobs).

There's also a Mustang Specific page on both sites with all of our model years - be sure to find those for better pictures.

None of those appear to have an 8-track player in them. Whihc of course would make them the coolest things ever.

That is the exact setup as mine, I have a small 200w amp under the dash to hide it, I just dont have the A/B switch I use an FM modulator.

I currently have an AM FM radio in the car but the AM does no longer function properly. Those seem to be hard to find these days also. I di find a place up in the Land of the Cheeseheads that will gut old radios and put new elctronics that work better inside of them, however this is an expensive process (most are around $500) and it takes a long time to get done. I figured it would be easier to just find a working one, and one with an 8 track would be much nicer.

Would like to get a Ford one so that it is not obvious to someone who does not know what the car chould look like that it is wrong- my car is a mish mash of 1971-1972 & 1973 parts as is with a few aftermarket things and later 1970s-early 80s bits (such as a digital mechanical clock in the center console) thrown in for good measure.

The only ones that I believe you can still get that will fit are the ones mentioned here and even if I liked the way they look (which I do not) I have heard things about them to the effect that they do not sound as good as the old factory ones do.

The one on eBay looks sort of cool! Alas I do not use eBay any longer since it stopped workig with my computer about 7 or 8 years ago.

that is a Late 70's radio, I was watching them for a while, I can garentee it will end over $125

if you do an E-bay search for type this in:

Ford radio (71,1971,72,1972,73,1973)

That will give you everything listed in our generation Fords, E-bay parts that are posted without the word "Mustang" tend to sell for much less
