Hello. I would like to put headers on my Boss 351. I have always run stock exhaust manifolds on all the '71s I have had, so my experience is limited on headers. Which ones are best, shorty or long tube? Ceramics? Brand? Are there serious engine compartment heat issues with headers? Just wondering who has done what. Any help on this matter would be appreciated. (Stock 351-4V Boss engine and 4 speed tranny).

Hooker makes a 'comp' and 'super comp' for the 4v. I don't know if it will work with manual transmission. I have run both. The super comp is longer, has larger collectors and hangs lower. If I remember correctly they are also slightly lighter. These work better at the higher RPM range.

I replaced mine with the comp headers, ceramic coated. Here is a write up I did.

I also always recommend the stage 8 header bolts:

I have a Grande Coupe with a factory 351 CJ with a top loader 4 speed. I have hooker competition headers with an X pipe and a custom exhaust. It sounds good, it has a bit of a drone, I've been told that is the mufflers not the headers.
