Anyone know if there is and/or who makes a push on style cap for the plug wires instead of the push in? I thought when I was in high school in the early 80's I had converted my '71 mach to this style. In fact I thought it also increased the circumference of the cap to the larger electronic style caps to help with the possible spark jump. Not that I'm having any issues with my current stock set up but I would just like to update the plug wires........

Thanks........jim

Jim- A ford V8 distributor cap is a Ford V8 distributor cap, they distributor is the same.

Get a cap and wires for any thing with a 400M built after say 1978. This was the transition to the larger diameter cap, it debuted with the higher-power Duraspark ignitions, it will be the larger diameter cap with the male, socket-style terminals, and wires to match...

This is the one you want, it has the clip-on base. A later style that was used on TFI distributors have a screw-on base.

You can get them at most any auto parts store. The cap portion is the same for either base, but at most parts stores you'll have to buy the adapter (base) and cap separately.

Here's a cap from NAPA:

And here's the correct adapter base from NAPA:

What you want is a M-12106-A302 kit. They are for the pre EFI distributors. Yes you can part it together for less but I just thought I'd show you what was/is available from Ford if you still wanted original parts. Many vendors stopped selling them for lask of sales. They used to be about $35 for the kit. I've purchased several in the past and one is on my Mach 1.

You can also get the MSD kit. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/msd-8414 Much cheaper but has a red cap.

well you won't ever get a spark jump problem with a stock distributor and cap and points no matter how much voltage your system has so you have a different problem.

Didn't say there was a problem......just want to use different style wires.

Won't look any different other than the cap color; might even be from the same Chinese casting. Most parts store caps are grey or medium blue.

That said, if you have a 351C, you will find that the Duraspark distributor will come very close and/or interfere with your upper radiator hose, if you have an original, straight-up upper radiator hose outlet.

I prefer to use the later 351M/400 outlet, which was designed specifically to give the extra room (see photo below). A '74 Torino upper radiator hose cut down on one end will fit perfectly.
