Hi,

Me and my dad have bought a Mustang 1973 restauration-car. And we need to order alot of parts, but we have never ordered something from the US (CJ Ponyparts, etc.)

We wanted to order all the parts today but realized that the shipping, costs more than the parts...

Anybody from Europe with the same problem who has a solution, or who knows how to get the price of the shipping down?

I don't now if this is the right place to ask...

Depends how they were going to ship it, sizes and weights.

International shipping has always been pricy.

email me your list I can see what I can do

Don

Yes Neigbour , it costs a lot of money to ship parts from the U.S. to the BeNeLux.

It was fun about 3 years ago and before , now shipping costs doubled or trippled !!

Don't forget that you also have to pay taxes and customs fees when the parts arrive in Belgium !!

I tried DHL , EMS , USPS , FedEx , they all have rediculous shipping costs.

Best thing to do is buy and ship all the stuff that you need in one shipment.

If Don knows the solution ,:D he's my new best friend:D ( still have 2 stangs to restore )

JB ( from the Netherlands )

When I ship quite a few things for my customers overseas, we usually try and find someone in a local car club that has purchased a car coming over and then we put the parts with that shipment. Doesn't always work that way, but sometimes it does. I also agree with Don, it depends on how you ship many items. For new items, I would definately go with Don.

I know the problem.

It is not only the shipping it's the taxes that blow the price up even more.

You pay for the part plus the shipping and that's the "value" of the part when it gets here, so you pay taxes and customs on parts plus shipping.

That easily makes the part twice as expensive as it was to start with.

There are a few dealers in Germany that I order from from time to time. It all depends on what parts you need.

If it is some mechanical part or something else that is not Mustang specific (oil filters, spark plugs, water pumps, ball joints, wheel bearings etc), it might be cheaper to buy in Germany. Shipping to Belgium should be the same as the shipping to Luxembourg.

But when it comes to parts that are more special, I always order from the US.

If the item is small enough, the shipping won't be that high and customs may let it pass without taxes. I had that happen before.

On the other hand, I ordered a Mach1 grille from CJ Pony Parts and the shipping was 89€. I don't remember how much the taxes were but in the end the grille with the sport lamps were still about 110€ cheaper that what they cost here in Europe.

The trick is to order as many things together as possible, so you only pay shipping once.

But then again, it's tricky, as shipping fees are calculated on both volume and weight. If you order something heavy in a small box it might be more expensive than something lighter in a bigger box.

Then again, if the volume gets too high, even with light items, you pay for the extra volume.

It is a lottery.

I still like to order my stuff from the US as it is usually still much cheaper than if I buy it here.

Remember that the salesmen here have to pay shipping and taxes too just like we do. Only they wanna make some profit on top of it, which is legit.

Even though they may stuff everything into a huge container and thus pay a little less shipping per item it still doesn't make that big a difference.

Thx for the information everybody!

We have contacted a local mustang garage to help us out, and to search for the best shipping price.

Unsure if this is any help but we have a guy here in the UK we all use who you can ship your order to at his address in the US.

Your order(s) get shipped to the UK in his container, approx. every six weeks & you pay part cost of container depending how much space your parts occupy, he waits till container is busting at the seams so no space wasted.

Ships literally everything including cars and reported to be a 1st class service, deals with customs etc, you would have to make the ferry or tunnel trip to collect unless he can forward to you in Eu ...... unsure if he could/would be up for that?

Let me know if this is of any use & will let you have details.

Thanks roger1197 for the advice, we are restaurating a Mach 1 fastback 1973 and yesterday we ordered alot of parts.

But if his conditions are not what he (the seller) prommissed I wanna have the details for the next order :)

You could bulk order from any one of the suppliers on here & ship to that US address, I've ordered from Don @ Ohio in the past & got a 1st class deal/service, if the parts are not urgent well worth the time & effort to use the container service, let me know by all means.

I "talk" with the guy on another car forum so no problem.

:)
