I'm surprised no-one has attempted to build one as a project car. I mean, how hard could it be?
There was a guy on youtube who did a 67 mid-engine fastback. Unfortunately, we couldn't just stop doing stuff to it. In the end, he went overboard with a stupid looking wide body kit and ruined it.

Funny how this came to me via email earlier today. Supposedly for 2024 Mustang model year. We will see. I am betting any mid-engine Mustang will have been spurred on by the C-8 Corvetter being a mid-engine machine.

In the comments section of the article in the link above one reader says, "I'll believe it when I see it." I pretty fall into that camp. As for the alleged $400k price of entry and having to go n a special list for one of those cars, I think I would prefer to wait for its 2nd year of production before putting out that kind of cash for a car. Meanwhile I have a really cool 2020 GT500 to cut around in that is plenty exciting for me, plus our bevy of vintage Mustangs and Shelby.

For some reason I just do not feel an attraction to a mid-engine Mustang. Perhaps it is partially due to the bad memories of our Ford dealer's Pantera I used to work on back in the late 70s and early 80s, he lost confidence in a Ford tech at one of his other dealerships, and once I identified and fixed an elusive problem he was having I was the only tech he would let work on it. I would like to take it on out test drives, where I would make up for what a PITA it was to work on. But, the reality is I was always happy to come to work and see the Pantera in the dealer's reserve spot without a mirror hanger on it, as the mirror hanger meant it had an open Repair Order waiting for me. I liked driving it enough for it to be fun, but seriously, a mid-engine car is not fun to work on. That said, yes, if I had one I would hang onto it just for the mystique aspect of having it.

I love supercars, especially old ones, but at the same time it's hard to get excited about cars that are the same price as the average house.
