I decided to pull the 9" rearend out of my 73 Cougar parts car today and found something interesting. When I got it out and loaded up in the back of my truck I noticed a nice big cast N in the middle of the casting. I have had this car for over three years now and never looked under it other than glancing at the rearend to see if it was a 9". It is kind of strange that it was put under this car because it was a 351C two barrel car with a FMX transmission. The only bummer about it is that it has a open 2.75 ratio and is not a trac lock.

The assembly line was not halted because there was a shortage of single ribbed 9 inch housings. It seems to be another example of "the show must go on" or factory error. There were some cars that were supposed to get a "N" case but traction-lok was an option, example: 1970 Boss 302. The N case is a great find. Congrats. Chuck

I find this kind of amusing, the one 9" that is not a nodular casting is out of a 70 M code Mustang and the nodular one is out of a H code Cougar.
