I ordered a gas tank from a Mustang parts vendor (not one on this forum). I ordered a kit with new strap bolts and a new sending unit. The new strap bolts were 1 inch shorter than the originals and the square head on the bolt was not 7/16 like the original but a smaller metric version. This prevented the bolts from seating properly in the frame so I couldn't use them. I then attempted to install the fuel line to the tank. That also failed as the cheap rubber line provided in the kit was 6 inches shorter than the original. I had to go out and buy new parts wasting more time. I eventually got the darn thing installed. It's just frustrating when you receive parts from big vendor that aren't even close to the originals. How the hell do they expect me to use that stuff? Just venting after an irritating day working on the Mach 1. Lesson learned...

That is a bummer. My sending unit had the fuel line tube connection going the wrong direction. I think the vendors finally fixed the design. I had to replace my sending unit after a couple of years because it was leaking fuel.

Good morning Steve,

I completely feel your pain. Some of the replacement parts are not up to the original OEM parts specs in quality. As a sponsored site vendor, I hope we can lean on Ohio Mustang for what are good quality parts and buy from them.

Thank You

1- Yes you can ask me about parts - if it is crap I will tell you so.

2- I worked with several manufacturers to get them to make 71-3 parts over the last 10 years. None of the big companies did that for us. NPD is the only one that brought out several things for us.

3- Just so you guys know the " them " at Ohio Mustang is

Me Don , Erin my wife and my two son's work here part time as they are in college.

4- Yes I say for us - the 71-3 crowd - I have several - although at this point in the crappy parts sales economy, they are all non running projects and a driver.

Don
