My Car
1973 Q code Mach 1 with 351 Cleveland 2V heads/C6
Hey guys, I was under the car recently and thought I would get the numbers off of the differential because I suspect it isn't the original that came with my car. Here are some of the numbers cast onto the hog's head. C2AW-4668, 3L20, 8E25. Does anyone know what these mean. I think 3L20 means 3:20 trac-lok but what do the others stand for? Also how can I find out what my car came from the factory with? My mustang is a 73 Q code Mach 1 VIN#3F05Q255526. Thanks for any information.

The L means it is trac-lok

Ford went with

for 1973

3.00 code 6 or O

3.25 code 9 or R

3.50 code A or S

No 3.20

6-9 or A are open

O - R or S are trac-lok

Should be a code on your door tag or buck tag under the hood

If those are gone - order a Marti report

thanks, I looked at the door plate. Under axle it has a 9. So does that mean my car originally came with an open differential that the previous owner swapped with a trac-loc hog's head?

The "8E25" (coupled with the C2AW) suggest the pumpkin was built on May 25, 1968.

It would appear that you might have a "60 era rear pumpkin in your rear end. Does it also have an "N" cast in it. If so, it is nodular rear end.
