Leaning how to Butt Weld Sheet Metal

I am still trying to learn how to weld and came across this on U-Tube.

Amazing how he angle grinds @45 degree  to make the metal conform .

That was interesting how he cut in at a 45 degree angle. I can see where that would make it go back to flush on the butt welds.

Yes I too have watched that video, clearly the guy is a professional.  I did notice he also recut the welds a few times because he was not happy.

Interesting use of the hammer handle to push the sheet metal together

My take-aways from the video:

Plan out what you're going to do

Be methodical

Do not rush

Small welds on sheet metal, just tacks, 1/4" long

Expect to have to go back occasionally, in this case to reposition the sheet metal

Do not try to get it all (perfect welds) first time around

When finish grinding expect to have to touch up some spots

No substitute for experience

We can learn from other's experience

The 45° cut angle is a good example of that experience
