Hi All,

I fitted a new brake cylinder to my car 9 months ago. I've done about 800 miles in it since and I've noticed rust streaks down the sides of it, so I guess the seal in it is leaking. Does anyone know why this is happening please?

Any suggestions much appreciated.

Top cap gasket leak. Possibly filled the reservoirs too high - you can leave the brake fluid 1/8" - 1/4" lower than the top edge without adverse effect as long as the system is working as it should; i.e. no leakage, sealed system. Also, the steel rod retainer may be weak - you can try a little bit of tweaking the bend to create a bit more pressure on the cap.
