Welcome formerly from Elmira born and raised to 1/74 there but never came back to live and work. Currenty a burber N.E. of Pittsburgh. Cant wait to see yours. After 10 years from acquisition as in abandoned shape shice? Best pics is on the next calendar but a lot on my photo album.Just joined up. I recently purchased a one owner 1971 Mach 1 J Code equipped with the numbers matching drive line including the 429 Cobra Jet and 4 speed Top Loader transmission. The owner had the original bill of sale and all kinds of documentation. The interior is in time capsule condition, really unbelieveable. The exterior is the original dark green metallic paint job with the gray two tone. It currently has 47,234 original miles on it. It has not been registered since 1991 and has been sitting on jack stands since 1993. The only thing missing from the car is the original wheels (he put on 15" Ansen slots) and the ram air set up. According to the owner, in the mid to late 70's he decided he wanted to remove the carbuertor and replace it with a bigger edelbrock. Once he changed the carb he had clearance issues with the ram air set up. So, he bought an aftermarket air cleaner and eventually lost the ram air set up over the years. The original plenum is still under the hood, but the air cleaner, snorkle , and seal needs to be replaced. I will be in search of this set up soon. I know these are hard to come by so if anyone has any suggestions for the new guy they will be much appreciated!
Best post some pics of them other cars too Pally. Lots of people here will love seeing themThanks for the warm welcome! I've done several restorations to include a 1955 Pontiac Chieftain, a 1971 Camaro Z-28, 1971 Dodge Charger Super Bee. I currently have just finished a 1969 Dodge Charger R/T 440. This 429 CJ will be my first venture into the Ford family. I love joining these types of groups and learning all about the cars and their history. This CJ will be really special due to its rarity and how great of shape its in. Once I get started on it I am going to pull the seats out and see if I can find the build sheet. I've checked behind and underneath all the seats with no luck. I've seen a couple photos of the build sheets being found on the drivers side floor near the trans hump. I plan on ordering a deluxe Marti report on her just to further the documentation.
As far as restoration goes, I'm going to bring this back to original. I'm going to try to keep the dark green metallic paint as original as I can because its never been touched and its actually in great shape. I'm going to try to keep all the body panels original and basically leave it alone as much as possible. Really looking forward to getting her running again as she hasnt been started since 1993. I can't wait to get started. I will be posting pictures and updates when I get going. I'm sure I'll have some questions along the way. Thanks again for the warm welcome.
No kidding. I'm in New Hartford. Yeah, thats where I got it from Craigslist. The car was in Vernon. I couldn't believe it whenI saw it. The condition is unbelievable considering it has spent its entire life here in upstate NY. Originally purchased at Keoner Ford in Yorkville on May 6th, 1971. Guy had the original bill of sale and everything. I'm pumped to start working on it.Hey where in NY are you? I'm in Utica. I spotted that car on craigs list and would have considered it if my wife and I didn't just have a baby!
Yeah I found that 429 megasite. What a wealth of information on there. Really incredible. Right now I'm trying to locate a ram air unit. It is proving to be a tough task. I contacted Leon from FordRamAir.com and he does not have anything in stock. Same answer from Ohio Mustang Supply. Pieorgie's has one but he wants $2,500 for the restored set up minus the plenum that I already have. I'm actually considering spending the $2500 to get it right because there isn't a whole lot I'm going to spending on this car. It's all there and in great shape. The only other thing I'm going to need is the correct paint code for the gray paint that is supposed to be on the car. The gray that goes on the hood and on the bottom of the doors.Welcome From Texas!
I also have one of those cool 429CJ "J" code Mustangs. I really love my car and am having a great time with it. I am also looking for a few assorted parts to get it as close to factory original as possible. I bought it already restored so I don't have all that labor of love to put in the car.
For plenty of information be sure and check out the 429 Megasite. You will spend hours on there learning just how the 429 Mustangs came from Dearborn, the only factory that made them.
Let me know if I can be of any help to you. You have found the absolute best site for 71-73 Mustangs on the planet! Keep us informed and we love photos here.
I'll get some pics up of the other restorations I've done. Gotta do some digging on the hard drive. I'll try to get them up today for your viewing pleasure.Best post some pics of them other cars too Pally. Lots of people here will love seeing themThanks for the warm welcome!
