noise coming from front of motor

On my 351c, M, I have an odd noise coming from the front of the engine. I thought it might be timing chain, cam bearing, I dont know! Anyway my fuel pump is leaking so Im in the middle of changing, I stuck my finger in the hole and feel the fuel pump eccentric and its feels lose. Should it be that way??

The eccentric has a rotating sleeve. Chances are the noise was your fuel pump.

If you still have the noise after you replace the fuel pump, try to explain what kind of noise, clicking, clunking, whirring, squeeling, etc.

I stuck my finger get in the hole and it giggles around very loosely

Does the eccentric move back and forth (front to rear), or just rotate easily?

if it's flopping around that much, the cam sprocket bolt might be loose.

Do I have to pull the whole front apart?

Yes, that's the only way to get to it.

If it were me, I would try the new fuel pump, first, and then if the noise persists get out the wrenches.
