I have many "ames", I guess.

I lived in Brazil for a year when I was 16 and no one spoke English, so I was immersed in the Portuguese language.

Took 4 years of French in high school and Minored in college.

Engaged to and married a French/German major in college.

Two tours in Japan and Okinawa and took Japanese classes, then engaged to a Japanese national while living in Hawaii.

Two years of Spanish in high school, now studying the Rosetta Spanish with my wife.

Schizophrenic may be a more appropriate term. :D

I think the way they teach another language at least here in Ontario is horrible. They focus on getting the kids to read and write the language as they are also trying to learn how to speak it. The natural way to learn is speak it first.....then move on to reading and writing. If they had conversational French when I was in high school I'd most likely be bi-lingual but the way they shoved it down our throats.....well lets say soon my french was over very quickly.

My mothers side of the family was Dutch....and after my grandmother passed away I lost a lot of the quickness that came with having to use the language, I can follow a conversation but I still have to translate in my head...although I did learn how to read alot of dutch by reading comics.
