I have a 73 Mercury Cougar hardtop that I bought as a parts car for my 73 Convertible Cougar. So the big question is, I also have a 73 Mustang and wondering if the rearend, power disc brake assembly off the 73 Cougar will work on my 73 Mustang. My 73 Mustang has manual drums all the way around and a 8" rearend. The 73 Cougar has a 9" rearend and front disc brakes. I am wondering if there is a good parts interchange between the two makes of cars.

As Mark stated not only are the rear end and brake parts the same but since your Mustang is a Coupe, most of the body parts are also interchangeable with your '73 Cougar.

BT,

None of the Cougar sheetmetal body parts match the Mustang body lines. The doors -might- bolt on but nothing will match. Glass is the same however....

The Cougar suspension is nearly identical. The rear axle on the automatic cars had rubber isolator bushings around the springs. The locator hole in the axle pad was larger to accommodate the top half of the clamshell clamp, so you'll need to make bushing or use a larger nut on the leaf spring centering pin.

Hemikiller,

You are ABSOLUTELY correct...the only major body part that is interchangeable between the Cougar and the Mustang Coupe is the roof. As inferred, the doors used the same hinges as do the hood. I think I just found the base "material" for a "weekly fun question

GREAT catch, Hemikiller:)!

Thanks!

The rearend and the power disc brakes is what I am wanting to swap onto my 73 Coupe. It is good to know there is some differences in the rearend before i go into this swap.
